About Adobe Commerce and Magento

What's the difference between Magento and Adobe Commerce?
Adobe Commerce is the new commercial name for Magento since 2021, following Adobe's acquisition of Magento in 2018. The Community edition (now Magento Open Source) remains free. The Enterprise edition was renamed Adobe Commerce and includes premium features: native B2B, Page Builder, Adobe BI, AI-powered Live Search and 24/7 support.
Is Adobe Commerce better than Shopify Plus?
It depends. Shopify Plus is superior for simple B2C brands that want fast launch and have clean catalogs. Adobe Commerce wins on: unlimited customization, complex B2B, multi-country with multi-currency, deep ERP integration, large catalogs (50k+ SKUs) and when you need full control of the stack. For simple stores, Shopify is usually a better value.
Adobe Commerce vs VTEX?
VTEX is strong in LATAM and in marketplace models (multiple vendors on one store). Adobe Commerce wins on complex B2B, customization and a more mature global ecosystem. VTEX has an edge on launch speed if you don't need deep customization.
Is Adobe Commerce only for large enterprises?
No. Magento Open Source (the free edition) is accessible for SMBs with their own tech team or a partner that manages it. Paid Adobe Commerce starts to make sense at $2M USD GMV/year and up. Below that, Shopify Plus or Adobe Commerce Open Source are more efficient.

Costs and timelines

How much does an Adobe Commerce implementation cost?
A typical B2C implementation with ERP integration and custom design ranges from $800,000 to $2,500,000 MXN. Complex B2B with multi-country can scale to $4M+ MXN. It depends on scope (integrations, design, data migration, multi-store). We run a free initial discovery to quote accurately.
How long does an Adobe Commerce implementation take?
Typical timeline: 3-6 months for standard B2C, 6-12 months for complex B2B or multi-country. Factors that extend timelines: number of integrations, migrating large historical data, deep checkout customization, complex pricing logic. A well-planned project goes live in 4-5 months.
How much does an Adobe Commerce license cost?
Magento Open Source is free (OSL-3.0 license). Adobe Commerce (paid) is priced by annual GMV: from ~$22,000 USD/year for low GMV up to $125,000+ USD/year for enterprises. Adobe Commerce Cloud adds ~$25,000+ USD/year for managed hosting. Negotiable by volume.
How much does hosting cost?
Self-hosted on AWS: $300-600 USD/month for stores with 50k sessions/month; $1,500-3,000 USD/month for 500k sessions; $8,000+ USD/month for 5M+. Adobe Commerce Cloud starts at ~$2,500 USD/month with everything managed by Adobe.

Migrations

How to migrate from Magento 1 to Adobe Commerce without losing SEO?
Our process: (1) full export of indexed URLs from Google Search Console + legacy sitemap. (2) One-to-one 301 redirect map to the new URLs. (3) Preservation of metadata, schema.org and content. (4) GSC monitoring for 3 months post-migration to catch drops. Typically there's a 2-3 week dip followed by full recovery in 6-8 weeks.
Can I keep running Magento 1 without migrating?
Magento 1 reached end of life in June 2020 — there are no more official security patches. Extended patch providers exist but are NOT approved by Adobe and may not strictly meet PCI DSS. If you process cards, your bank may require migration. You're also missing out on features (Page Builder, Live Search, etc.). Migrating is the only sustainable path.
How long does a migration from Shopify or VTEX take?
From Shopify: 3-5 months (catalog + customers + orders + themes). From VTEX: 4-6 months (multi-country is usually the factor). We preserve active discounts, loyalty programs, reviews and wishlists when applicable.

ERP integrations

Which ERPs integrate with Adobe Commerce?
We have proven connectors for SAP (ECC, S/4HANA and Business One), Oracle EBS, Microsoft Dynamics (365 Business Central, F&O, NAV), Intelisis, Odoo, OpenBravo, Contpaq i, Aspel SAE/COI. Bidirectional sync: catalog, pricing, inventory, customers, orders, electronic invoicing (CFDI 4.0).
Does my ERP inventory sync in real time?
For high volume: real-time via webhook (<5 sec). For huge catalogs with low rotation: batch every 15-30 min. For B2B: real-time query at cart time, not permanent sync. The design depends on your operation — we define it in the consulting phase.
What happens if my ERP goes down during a sale?
A well-designed eCommerce doesn't go down when the ERP does. We use an async queue: the order is captured in Magento, queued for the ERP, and processed when the ERP comes back online. The customer never loses their purchase. We implement circuit breakers and cached-price fallbacks.

Adobe Experience Cloud (AEM, AEP, Target, Workfront…)

Does WolfSellers only do Adobe Commerce or also the other Adobe products?
Beyond Commerce, we implement Adobe Experience Manager (Sites + Assets + Forms), Adobe Target, Workfront, Marketo Engage, Journey Optimizer (B2C and B2B Edition). On the data side we're active consultants on Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), Real-Time CDP, Customer Journey Analytics and Analytics — with expertise in architecture and ramping up delivery of large-scale projects. For Workfront and AEM we have production cases.
When should you use AEM vs a lighter CMS like WordPress?
AEM justifies its cost when you need enterprise DAM, robust multi-site multi-language, regulatory compliance or deep integration with other Adobe products (Target, Analytics, Marketo). For simple marketing sites, WordPress or another headless CMS is usually more efficient. We'll help you decide honestly in the initial consultation.
What's the difference between Adobe Analytics and Customer Journey Analytics (CJA)?
CJA is the evolution. It unifies data across all channels (web + app + offline + call center + email) in a single view, with SQL-like queries over raw data and modeled attribution. Classic Adobe Analytics is limited to web/app with less flexible pricing. We recommend planning migration to CJA within 12-18 months if you haven't already.
Marketo Engage vs Journey Optimizer: which to choose?
Marketo remains the standard for complex B2B (lead scoring, multi-touch nurturing, Salesforce alignment). Journey Optimizer (B2C and B2B Edition) is Adobe's modern bet for real-time orchestrated multichannel journeys on top of AEP. If you already have AEP, JO integrates better. For pure B2B without AEP, Marketo is still #1.
Is Workfront worth it for my marketing team?
It's justified when your marketing + creative team is 30+ people, with multiple business units, rotating external agencies, or audit compliance. For smaller teams, Asana or Monday are more agile and cheaper. Workfront shines with native integration to Creative Cloud and AEM Assets.
How much does an AEM or AEP implementation cost?
AEM (Sites + Assets) starts at ~$50k USD/year + implementation project from 6 months (~$500k-$1.5M USD). AEP + Real-Time CDP starts at ~$150k USD/year + minimum 6-12 month project. These are enterprise investments and require a clear business case. We run the analysis in a free initial consultation.
