Adobe Commerce Page Builder — visual authoring without dev

Adobe Commerce Page Builder is the native drag-and-drop editor in Adobe Commerce (Enterprise only). It lets marketing and merchandising create landing pages, enriched PDPs, campaigns, and homepages without touching code or depending on the dev team. WolfSellers implements Page Builder with client-specific custom content types, AEM Assets / Dynamic Media integration, and Adobe Target integration for onsite personalization.

Definition

What is Page Builder?

Page Builder is the visual page editor included in Adobe Commerce (paid edition, not in Magento Open Source). It replaces the classic WYSIWYG editor with a visual canvas where marketing drags pre-built blocks (rows, columns, text, images, video, buttons, banners, product widgets, slideshows, Google Maps, custom HTML) and configures them without code.

Used for: dynamic homepage, campaign landing pages, enriched PDPs, category pages, CMS content. Competes with other platform editors (Shopify theme editor, PageFly, Shogun, Gutenberg) with the advantage of being natively integrated into Commerce.

Capabilities

What Page Builder solves

Main daily-use features:

  • Drag-and-drop canvas with live preview
  • Native blocks: text, headings, buttons, images, video, HTML, maps, tabs, accordions
  • Product widgets: product lists with rules (category, SKU, featured, trending)
  • Slider / carousel with configurable transitions
  • Responsive design: define stacking/order per breakpoint (desktop, tablet, mobile)
  • Content scheduling: publish/unpublish at specific dates/times
  • Reusable templates: save blocks to reuse on other pages
  • Integrated staging: preview changes before publishing (Commerce Enterprise only)
  • Dynamic Media integration for optimized image/video delivery
  • AEM Assets integration for DAM-centered content

Extensibility

Custom Content Types

Native blocks cover 80% of use cases. For the remaining 20% (brand-specific needs), Custom Content Types are developed — modules that appear in the Page Builder panel as any stock block but with their own logic and UI.

  • Hero with integrated lead capture form
  • B2B product comparison with spec sheet (custom fields)
  • Testimonials with structured data (Schema.org Review)
  • FAQ accordion with auto-generation of FAQPage schema
  • Campaign countdown with automatic activation/expiration
  • Shoppable video with hotspots and click-to-buy
  • External PIM integration for product blocks with specific attributes

Personalization

Page Builder + Adobe Target

The Page Builder + Target combination is where real uplifts show:

  • Create multiple variants of a Page Builder block
  • Configure experience via Adobe Target with Real-Time CDP audiences
  • Each visitor sees the variant assigned by Auto-Target ML or explicit segmentation
  • Reporting in Analysis Workspace (Analytics/CJA) with revenue attribution
  • Promote winning variant to permanent when test ends

Delivery

What we do on an implementation

Page Builder ships out-of-the-box with Adobe Commerce Enterprise. Our work focuses on governance, custom content types, and training:

  • Current site audit: what's created manually, how much time it consumes
  • Block design system: define the 15-25 core blocks
  • Brand-specific custom content type development
  • Base templates for page type (home, campaign landing, PDP, category)
  • AEM Assets (DAM) + Dynamic Media integration for media pipeline
  • Per-role permissions setup: who can edit what sections
  • Content scheduling workflow + staging for large campaigns
  • Adobe Target integration for onsite personalization
  • Training for marketing + merchandising + content editors
  • Governance playbook: who approves what, how to avoid inconsistent blocks

Frequently asked questions

What is Adobe Commerce Page Builder?
Page Builder is Adobe Commerce's (Enterprise) native drag-and-drop visual editor. It lets marketing create landings, enriched PDPs, campaigns, and homepages without dev, dragging pre-built blocks on a WYSIWYG canvas with live preview. Includes stock blocks (text, images, video, products, slider) and supports brand-specific custom content types.
Does Page Builder come with Magento Open Source?
No. Page Builder only ships with Adobe Commerce Enterprise (paid). Magento Open Source (free) has the classic TinyMCE editor. For Open Source projects, alternatives are: marketplace extensions (Magezon, Mageplaza) or actively advocating Adobe's roadmap to open Page Builder (not announced yet).
Can I build custom blocks in Page Builder?
Yes. Adobe Commerce supports Custom Content Types — PHP + Magento UI + JavaScript modules that appear as native blocks in the Page Builder panel but with their own logic. WolfSellers develops business-specific custom content types (e.g. B2B comparison block with spec sheet, shoppable video with hotspots, lead capture forms).
Page Builder vs Shopify theme editor vs PageFly?
Page Builder is more deeply integrated with the Commerce catalog (product widgets with complex rules per category/attribute/stock). Shopify theme editor is more visually polished but less flexible for complex B2B catalogs. PageFly / Shogun are Shopify apps adding similar capabilities to Page Builder. For Adobe Commerce operations, Page Builder wins via native integration and zero extra cost.
Does Page Builder affect site performance?
It can. Poorly optimized blocks (especially embedded Google Maps, auto-play videos, custom HTML with heavy scripts) can drop Core Web Vitals. Best practices: lazy-load media, avoid Google Maps above-the-fold, use Dynamic Media for images, limit slider animations. With Hyvä Themes + Dynamic Media, a site with Page Builder can hit Lighthouse 90+.
